  1. She signals the way Bonobos play and how that makes them more cooperated, it makes them more creative and driven to explore. As she says: "Play is the key to capacities", and she is right, we need to be inspired by the bonobos so that we can get a better community and be more as one. Nothing is wrong with being playful or explore things, it is the right way to develop ones knowledge and capacity. Curiosity is important for us humans, it is a part of who we are and should not have a negative tone. It is good to be curious and play together, make decisions together and laugh together. It is all about communication.

    Our summary of Eleanor's article:

She has a good point about people's behavior, people do underestimate women's chores. It is true that women contribute to the social life and older women are often over-looked because of their agin-looks and they are replaced with younger, prettier women. Nowadays when we hear about women they are often associated with fashion, looks or other unimportant things. Which is the opposite to what you hear about men, who always gets attention for managing to do great things. Women are just as capable as men to do great things. Women can manage to do things men never could do, that is giving birth. By that it is proved that women can handle much more pain than men. There are a lot of things women do better than men, for example we are more recession-proof, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics 80 percent of those who lost their jobs since December 2007 have been men. We graduate collage more often, female enrollment are in fact higher than male. When men worm up frozen pizza women eat a lot healthier food and put more effort into it. We also have stronger immune systems and we live longer, among the world's population of those who are over 100 years old, 85 percent are women.
So as you can see there are a lot of things women can do and are things they do better than men.
In Sweden we fight for equality and are often trying to put out many of these facts to make people realize that women can be better than men, it is not always the other way around. We do not live in the Middle Ages anymore, we are, or at least we should be, equal.

  2. Of you think about it our society has a very divided view of why you should do things. We are always told that you should find something in life you enjoy and fun to do, but at the same time we are constantly reminded that we have to do so many things, that it is our duty and it is expected of us. You may not like it but you do it anyways.
The view of women is the same. We are constantly told that the women's rights movements have gotten so far, and that the woman are as powerful and able as the man. Yet constantly we hear little jokes and barbs like 'your place is in the kitchen' or 'don't trust a woman, the only thing she can do is gossip and eat chocolate'. We all know it is not true, but we laugh because it is so ridiculous and obviously sexist in a they know that I know that they know-kind of way. There is a name for that, it is called retro sexism or ironic sexism. Because even if we know it is not true this constant nagging and near brainwashing -- this is constantly used in commercials -- I think it still leaves this little instinct that women are these stereotyped helpless creatures with no real use.
